Claudia Behnke Transpersonal Psychotherapist Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex & London
Couples Therapy in the city of London & Essex
Helping couples move beyond conflict, disconnection and painful relational patterns.
I offer couples therapy in Moorgate, London and Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, as well as online sessions for couples across the UK.
My work combines attachment-based psychotherapy, Relational Life Therapy, psychosynthesis and somatic awareness to help couples understand the deeper emotional dynamics beneath recurring conflict, distance and misunderstanding.
Relationships can become places of loneliness as much as love
You may find yourselves:
-
having the same argument repeatedly
-
walking on eggshells around one another
-
feeling emotionally disconnected
-
stuck in criticism, defensiveness or withdrawal
-
struggling after betrayal or loss of trust
-
longing for closeness but unsure how to reach one another
Often beneath these patterns are older attachment wounds, protective strategies and unmet emotional needs that neither partner fully understands yet.
Couples therapy offers a space to slow these dynamics down and begin relating differently.
How I work
My approach is warm, relational and gently direct.
I draw on:

-

-

-
Psychosynthesis
-
Inner child work
-
Somatic awareness
-
Mindfulness-based approaches
Rather than focusing only on communication techniques, we explore what happens emotionally underneath conflict - the vulnerable parts that may feel unseen, criticised, controlled, abandoned or unsafe.
The aim is not blame, but deeper understanding, accountability and reconnection.
Couples often come to therapy for support with:
-
communication difficulties
-
emotional disconnection

FAQ SECTION
How do I know if couples therapy can help us?
Couples therapy can help when both partners are willing to explore the patterns between them with honesty and openness - even if things currently feel stuck or painful.
What if my partner is reluctant?
This is very common. Often one partner reaches out first. Therapy can still be valuable even when there is uncertainty.
Do you work with attachment issues?
Yes. Attachment patterns are often central to relationship difficulties and form an important part of the work.
Can therapy help after an affair?
Yes. Therapy can help couples process betrayal, understand underlying dynamics and explore whether repair and rebuilding trust are possible.
Do you offer online couples therapy?
Yes, online sessions are available for couples throughout the UK.
Is online couples therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
For many couples, yes. Online therapy can be just as effective as in-person work, particularly when both partners are able to engage openly and consistently. Some couples even find it easier to speak honestly from the familiarity of their own environment.
Do you only work with couples in crisis?
Not at all. Some couples come because communication has broken down, while others want to deepen intimacy, navigate life transitions or understand recurring patterns before they become more painful.
How long does couples therapy usually take?
This depends on your goals and the complexity of the difficulties you are facing. Some couples come for shorter-term focused work, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper relational patterns.
Is there a minimum commitment for couples therapy?
Although there is no minimum amount of sessions you have to commit to I generally recommend at least 6 sessions initially, as relational patterns can take time to understand and work through. Therapy tends to be most effective when there is consistency and space to build trust and momentum within the process.
What is discussed during the 15-minute consultation?
The initial consultation offers a space to briefly explore what brings you to therapy, what you are hoping for support with, and whether the way I work feels like the right fit for you both. It is also an opportunity to ask practical questions about the process, availability or approach before arranging a first session.
Do you offer individual sessions alongside couples therapy?
Yes, individual sessions can sometimes be helpful in supporting the couples work. However, it is important that this remains balanced and transparent within the therapeutic process. If one partner has an individual session, I would usually also offer the same opportunity to the other partner. This helps maintain fairness and trust within the couples work.
